Defender Picks

Today in New Orleans 4.10.13

Tonight, see some soulful Bay Area rock in Lafayette Square. Head to the Art Klub and get inspired, see some folk on St. Claude, and more. On this day in 1965, the Dixie Cups' "Iko Iko" entered the Billboard Chart. Now, more hump day happenings.

Reel to Real (Art Klub, Michalopoulos Studio, 12pm-10pm)

Every Wednesday, stop by and get inspired with soft drinks, cocktails, music, and fellow artists. Tonight at 7pm, enjoy a presentation from local filmmakers, followed by a Q&A session.

Wed. at the Square with Mother Hips and Jon Roniger (Lafayette Square, 5pm-8pm)

Tonight, see some New Orleans jazz/folk/storytelling from Roniger, plus some San Francisco soul from the headliners. Get a beer (or two) after work, and peruse dozens of local foods vendors. Proceeds from tonight’s sales go towards the Young Leadership Council.

The Tinytypes with Natale Mae and Lost in the Holler (Hi-Ho Lounge, 8pm)

It’s another folk night with the Tinytypes on St. Claude, and there’s an early start time. Arrive at 8pm, Cover is free, and there will be no smoking allowed in tonight’s show.

Andrew Block and Friends (Maple Leaf, 11pm)

The guitarist is back in his hometown tonight performing songs with soul, funk, R&B, and rock influences. Block has played with Dumpstaphunk, George Porter Jr., Ivan Neville, and dozens more big names from the Crescent City.

Delfeayo Marsalis & Uptown Jazz Orchestra (Snug Harbor, 8pm)

Come see on of the city's finest jazz trombonists tonight on Frenchmen. Marsalis adds a modern twist to classic jazz styles. The show is all ages, and cover is $25.
