This morning, bring the whole family to the Ogden for a lesson on our city’s cultural roots. Later on, head to Ashe for “Redd Linen Night,” see live theatre in Mid City, and more. On this day in 1983, local artists Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Queen Ida, and Toto all won Grammy awards. Now, it’s time to plan your Saturday.

 

Ogden Family Day: A Celebration of Mardi Gras Indian Traditions (Ogden Museum, 10am-2pm)

 

Head to the Ogden Museum of Southern Art (925 Camp) for a free family day inspired by the exhibition “Well Suited: The Costumes of Alonzo Wilson for HBO’s Treme.” Enjoy arts and crafts, live music, food from Miss Linda’s Soul Food Catering, and more.

 

Salu Quarterly Pig Roast (Salu, All Day)

Head to Magazine and see Salu's second annual Cochon de Lait roast. Chefs will cook a pig in their "Cajun microwave" and serve up swine like you've never seen. 

 

Redd Linen Night (Ashe Cultural Arts Center, 6pm-10pm)

 

Paint the town redd in Central City tonight. Douglas Redd was a community leader and visual artists, and Ashe is holding a fundraiser in his honor. Art work from Lidya Araya, Gus Bennett, Karel Sloane Boekbinder, and many more. Also enjoy performance art from Troi Bechet, Gallynn Edgerson, Don Lewis, and more.

 

XXYYXX and Teen Daze (Hi Ho Lounge, 10pm)

 

Marcel Everett is in town from Florida, and the electronic musician and producer is on St. Claude tonight. Teen Daze is in from Canada, and they’re bringing their beachy sound until 11:45pm.

 

Venus in Fur (Mid City Theatre, 8pm)

 

Back by popular demand, Southern Rep’s Venus in Fur follows a young starlet through an audition and explores the line between seduction and power. Written by David Ives and directed by Aimee Hayes. Tickets are $30.

 

John Boutte (dba, 8pm)

 

Come hear the famous jazz vocalist  perform at one of his favorite Marigny venues tonight.  Cover is $10. Stick around for the Grammy winners from Rebirth Brass Band at 11pm, cover for Rebirth is $15.
