Today in New Orleans 11.29.12

This Thursday, fight the stupids at Maple Street Book Shop, or learn about social change with filmmakers from all over the world. Enjoy jazz downtown, or head to the Ogden for some after hours fun. Happy Birthday to clarinetist, bandleader, and educator Dr. Michael White, born November 29, 1954.

Moira Crone, Michael Allen Zell (Maple Street Book Shop, 6pm)

Come see the two authors read from and sign their new novels at Maple Street’s uptown location. Crone’s Not Yet is set in 2121 and deals with class warfare. Zell’s neo noir Errata follows Raymond Russell, a young cabbie whose life changes once he witnesses a horrific crime.

Social Change Film Festival (Various Locations, All Day)

The traveling global festival chose New Orleans this year, and the theme of their selections is water. See films dealing with all forms of water as a social issue, whether manmade or natural. Venues are the CAC, Dillard University, Loyola University, and Zeitgeist.

Ogden After Hours (Ogden Museum, 6-8pm)

Tonight, enjoy some contemporary southern art after hours with music from Luke Winslow King in the lobby. Bring the kids for O Fun art making, enjoy some soul food from Miss Linda, and enjoy a cocktail or a glass of wine. Admission is $10, free for Ogden members.

Glen David Andrews (Irivin Mayfield’s I Club, 8pm)

Andrews is taking to the trombone tonight at Mayfield’s JW Marriott location. The venue offers the best of New Orleans’ music every Wednesday-Saturday night. Tickets are available at the door.
