Today in New Orleans 5.5.13

Close out your Jazz Fest with Trombone Shorty! All day long, enjoy a free festival with Quintron and Helen Gillet, see Los Po-Boy-Citos on Freret, and catch the last night of giant puppets! On this day in 1713, Antoine Cadillac was appointed Spanish Governor of Louisiana. Now, more to do this Sunday.

JazzFest (Fairgrounds, 11am-7pm)

It’s your last chance to fest it up this year! Today’s lineup includes Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Bo Dollis and the Wild Magnolias, The Black Keys, Irma Thomas, Feufollet, John Boutte, and many, many more. Come out ready for mud, and eat, drink, and dance the day away.

Noize Fest (609 Lesseps St., 12pm-10pm)

If you’re tired of paying festival prices come to today’s completely free fest featuring 33 acts. Performers include Quintron, Helen Gillet, Egg Yolk Jubilee, Ratty Scurvics’ Bazzouds, Mike Dillon & Cliff Hines, and many more.

Los Po-Boy-Citos (PubliQ House, 6pm-10pm)

Enjoy some Latin funk on Freret tonight, and hear tracks from the guys’ latest album, Hasta. Enjoy $3 Coronas, $5 Margs, and close out the band’s record release, Jazz Fest extravaganza.

New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival (Mudlark Theatre, 9pm)

Close out the Second Annual Giant Puppet Fest with a screening of Quintron and Miss Pussycat’s The Mystery of the Old Birdath, an animated feature that layers the couple’s experimental noise music on top of a clay-mation narrative.
