Today in New Orleans 5.1.13

This hump day, head to the Bywater for this year's Chaz Fest. Later on at Tipitina's, My Spilt Milk presents An Evening with Yo La Tengo. Wednesday at the Square is still on with the Meters Experience. Happy Birthday to Tim McGraw, born in Delhi, Louisiana, on May 1, 1967.

Chaz Fest (Truck Farm, 12pm-10pm)

For eight years in a row, Chaz Festival has been the Ninth Ward’s favorite alternative to the Fairgrounds. See The Tin Men, Los Poboycitos, The Valparaiso Men’s Choir, The Tintypes, MC Sweet Tea, and many more. The Truck Farm is on St. Claude, between Feliciana and Montegut. Tickets are $25.

An Evening with Yo La Tengo (Tipitina’s, 9pm)

My Spilt Milk presents the event, and indie pop veterans Ira Kaplan, Georgia Hubley, and James McNew will perform two sets, one quiet and one not so quiet. Tickets are $15, and showtime is 10pm.

Big Chief Monk Boudreaux's Indian Summit (Blue Nile Balcony Room, 9pm)

It's one of New Orleans' most sacred cultural traditions, and The Wild Magnolias are keeping it alive tonight with a blend of second line, backbeats, jazz, funk, and more.

Wednesday at the Square (Lafayette Square, 5pm-8pm)

Weather permitting, you can head to the CBD and get funky after work at tonight’s free concert. The Meters Experience featuring Leo Nocentelli, Chris Mule & The Perpetrators are playing, and come hungry. Dozens of local food vendors will feed the masses, and proceeds from grub and beer sales go to the Young Leadership Council.
