Today in New Orleans 5.22.13

Tonight, Trombone Shorty plays Wed. at the Square! Check out a fundraiser in the Marigny, Shakespeare in NOMA's Sculpture Garden, and more. On this day in 1992, five members of NWA rap group were arrested for “inciting a riot” outside of the Sheraton after they were denied entry into the hotel. Now, more hump day happenings.

Artist Inc. Fundraiser (1445 Pauger St., 6pm-9pm)

Support NOLA’s creative community at the historic home of Dorian and Kel Bennett. Cake Café, La Boulangerie, the Pelican Club Restaurant and Bar, Whole Foods, and Woody’s Fish Tacos are providing the grub. Sauska Wines and Old New Orleans Rum are slinging the drinks. $35 for Art Klub members, $45 for individuals, $80 for couples.

Retox (Circle Bar, 10pm)

The Southern California punk rock quartet, consisting of Michael Crain, Thor Dickey, Brian Evans, and Justin Pearson, just released their latest album YPLL this month. Catch them on their tour.

Much Ado About Nothing (NOMA Sculpture Garden, 5pm)

Experience one of Shakespeare’s best comedies in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA.  Presented by Project NOLA, the play transports the Benedick and Beatrice to the South at the turn of the century.

Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, plus Westbank Mike (Wednesday at the Square, 5pm-8pm)

It’s the second-to-last chance to spend your Wednesday in Lafayette Square, and Troy Andrews is here to play another world-class show in his home city. Westbank Mike is sharing the stage with the young legend, and the show is free. Enjoy beer from Abita, food from dozens of local vendors, crafts, art, and more. Sales proceed the Young Leadership Council of New Orleans.
