Today in New Orleans 5.15.13Move through the middle of the week with a Shakespearian comedy in the Sculpture Garden, a contemporary romance film at Fulton on Tap, or a poetic reading at Open House Salon. Music mavens can also catch some classic New Orleans sounds at Wednesday’s At the Square, or break it down street style for the beginnings of a Hip Hop Heritage Fest. On this day in 1915, Huey Long was admitted to the Louisiana Bar Association. For a more detailed look into Wednesday’s event, check below:
Much Ado About Nothing (NOMA Sculpture Garden, 5 pm) Experience one of Shakespeare’s best comedies in the Besthoff Sculpture Garden at NOMA. Presented by Project NOMA, the play transports the Benedick and Beatrice to the South at the turn of the century.
Hip Hop Heritage Festival (Café Istanbul, 8 pm) Experience the first of many monthly nights of hip hop set against a live band. Hosted by Café Istanbul, the festival features up-and-coming local artists like Fiend, Corner Boy P, Dee Low and Monsta Beatz, Nesby Phips and 0017, Quentin Corvette, Alia Fleury and Young Roddy.
Screening Party for Least Favorite Love Songs (Fulton on Tap, 7 pm) Beer, music, and one woman’s search for sex awaits as The Hatchery Media presents “Least Favorite Love Songs.” No ticket necessary, beer specials and a performance by DJ SiRReAl.
Jimmy Ross Book Release and Reading (Open House Salon 1501 St. Roch, 7:30 pm) Ross reads from his new collection of poetry, Say What! Judging from his quirky book cover and story-telling abilities, the reading promises nothing but entertainment.
Wednesday at the Square (Lafayette Square, 5 pm) The 12-week concert series continues with Billy Iuso & Restless Natives and N’awlins Johnnys. Enjoy the outdoor concert with plenty of local food vendors and libations. |
