TimeCode Film Fest Reels in New Orleans

by Erica Boni

TimeCode Nola presents its first annual three-day film festival this weekend. The nonprofit was formed in 2002 when three independent film makers came together to produce a monthly one hour television show featuring each animation, independent shorts, interviews with filmmakers and informative pieces relevant to the region’s current events.

This weekend, the group is expanding their mission of exposing indie films to a larger audience and promoting networking between local producers at every stage of the filmmaking process.

The festival will begin on Friday night at One Eyed Jack’s at 10pm with a screening of Defend The Gulf at 8pm, a series of environmental shorts sponsored by the Gulf Restoration Network. A single reel film shot in super 8 will be screened afterwards proceeded by a live performance by C.O.G. (Consortium of Genius).

A wide variety of filmmaking panels and workshops will be held on Saturday as well as screenings of short slice-of-life films shot on street corners throughout the city. All of these events will be free and open to the public.  In the evening, stop by One Eyed Jack’s for the debut of Timecode’s original picture Where Y’at (Hello) at 9pm.

Finally on Sunday stop by City Park and enjoy a series of documentaries for a $5 entry fee including The Farm a staggering look into the lives of 6 Angola prison inmates and the system surrounding their circumstance. There will be plenty of opportunities for aspiring filmmakers to get inspired to manifest potential projects or contribute their own productions to TimeCode for a chance to be featured on the group’s television show as well.
