Today in New Orleans events, locals have a few options between boogeying down, staying involved, or munchin' on some organic greatness. There are multiple brass band performances, writer's speeches, farmers' markets and school board discussions. Luckily, this city doesn't treat Tuesdays like the boring mid-week day that most Americans consider it to be. In the spirit of freedom, on this day in history (1942) Louis Armstrong was granted a divorce from his 3rd wife over in Chicago.  

 

Keynote Speaker: Dan Baum, author of 'Nine Lives' (Tulane, 6pm)

Tulane will be hosting Dan Baum, author of the bestselling book 'Nine Lives'. The event will be held at the Woldenberg Art Center, Freeman Auditorium at 6 P.M. and will be open to the public, free of charge. Baum has been a staff writer for The New Yorker as well as various other publications.

 

Treme Brass Band (d.b.a., 9pm)

The famous Treme Brass Band will be playing tonight on Frenchmen Street. Cover charge is only $5 so don't miss out on this cheap chance for great brassy beats!

 

Rebirth Brass Band  (Maple Leaf, 10pm)

The Maple Leaf Bar, 8316 Oak Street, will be hosting the Rebirth Brass Band at 10 o'clock tonight! Playing together for nearly 30 years, the band originated from the French Quarter and now plays in festivals around the world.

 

Orleans Parish School Board Candidates Forum (First Baptist Church, 6pm)

Today at 6 p.m. head over to First Baptist Church of New Orleans, 5290 Canal Blvd. For those involved in the local school system, take this chance to learn more about the candidates running for Orleans Parish School Board and highlights of major issues facing public education in New Orleans. The school board election will be November 6th.

 

Crescent City Farmers Market (Warehouse District, 8am-12pm)

Head over to the Warehouse District at 700 Magazine St. to get the best in fresh, locally grown produce, seafood, baked goods and much more. As well as the food, there'll be entertainment by local musicians, cooking demonstrations, and plenty of socializing oportunities. Remember: early bird catches the worm - the market runs from 8am to 12 noon.
