Storm Leaves Power Out Across New OrleansUpdated 12:00 p.m. In case you don't have a window nearby, a sudden, heavy thunderstorm system blew through New Orleans this morning. By the time the storm moved through at 11 a.m., power was out for about 40,000 people across the city the highest point of the outages, according to Entergy New Orleans. By 11:30 a.m., the number of people out was at about 28,000, and by noon the outages were down to about 7,800. Entergy's handy outage map turned red immediately after the storm, especially in the area of the city immediately South of Lake Pontchartrain.
There were widespread outages in Treme, Bayou St. John, Uptown, Lakeview, Uptown, Central City, Gentilly, the 7th Ward and New Orleans East, according to Entergy. A flash flood warning is in effect for the area until 2:30 p.m.
12:00 p.m. Power was largely restored across the city by noon, with areas of Broadmoor. Pontchartrain Park, the area of New Orleans East just South of Lakefront Airport, and a pocket of streets in Broadmoor were the only remaining large outages. But pockets out of outages remained across the city. The total number of customers affected was at 8,000, according to Entergy. |
