State of Undress: This Weekend in New Orleans Burlesque and Cabaret

by Jessa Bingham

Looking to be tempted and teased by the titillating dancers of New Orleans? Or enjoy a classic cabaret act with comedians that are sure to bring on hearty laughs? Come inside the venues to cool off from the August weather, and get re-heated the right way with peeks at the city's sexiest movers and shakers. Here's a look at what's going on in the burlesque and cabaret scene this weekend in the Big Easy.

Boobs and Goombas: A Super Mario Brothers Burlesque

The sexy ladies of Gorilla Tango Burlesque are returning for their third and final week performing at the Allways Lounge with the continually successful Boobs and Goombas. Follow Mario and Luigi on their plight to find Princess Peach, as they encounter many beautiful ladies distracting them with their star and mushroom pasties along the way. Shows are selling out quickly so be sure and get your ticket early. The Allways Lounge, 2240 St. Claude Ave. 8/24-8/25 at 10 p.m. and 8/26 at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15.

Burlesque Ballroom

New Orlean's burlesque darling Trixie Minx produces and stars in this weekly show.  Trixie Minx knows how to seduce an audience, and that makes her a necessary staple on the tease scene. Leon "Kid Chocolate" Brown provides the jazz music for the ladies to tease their way out of their skimpy costumes. Showing late night on Fridays, this show will entice locals and tourists alike. Irvin Mayfield's Jazz Playhouse, Royal Sonesta, 300 Bourbon St. 8/24 at 11:50 p.m.

Bustout Burlesque

This popular troupe is voted among the Top 10 Burlesque Shows in the World, by Travel Channel. And there is a reason: week after week the flirty numbers continue to sizzle. Featuring dancers Ruby Joule and Ginger Valentine (Queen of Burlesque, 2011), this show promises to seduce the audience with their classic stripteases. Hosted by Master of Ceremonies, Dante, and including the sultry singing of Debbie Davis. House of Blues, 225 Decatur. 8/25 at 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tickets available at www.livenation.com

Le Royal Rouge Show

Harrahs' Casino introduces their multi-act variety show, hosted by Times-Picayune writer Jodi Borello. Boas and glitter adorn the electrifying dancers, high-kicking their way through the numbers. Magic and death defying stunts are sure to shock! Six dancers, illusionist Rob Lake and crossbow-artist Ben Blacque, of "America's Got Talent" notoriety, make up the cast of this Parisian-themed cabaret. Harrah’s Theatre, located inside the Harrah’s Casino, 8 Canal St. Wednesdays through Sundays, through 10/28, at 8 p.m. Tickets are $29.99-$39.99, available through Ticketmaster.

Ricky Graham and Becky Allen

Ricky Graham and Becky Allen, ever popular on the local theater scene, will be performing their entertaining cabaret, along with Jefferson Turner on piano. Comedic timing is sure to have to audience begging for more. This duo will include hits from past performances at The Mint, The Stage Door Canteen, and Margaritaville, to name a few. Mid-City Theater, 3540 Toulouse St. 8/24 and 8/25 at 8p.m. and 8/26 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $26.
