St. Roch Tavern Robbed Friday

The St. Roch Tavern (1200 St. Roch Ave.) was robbed at gunpoint on Friday (7.7) by a young man in his late teens or early 20s, according to a bartender who encountered the perpetrator. The bartender saw a young man enter the premises without identification and approach bar. He then threatened the bartender with a gun, striking and punching at her before making off with money.

The perp was dressed “as a woman, but lazily,” said the bartender, who described the robber as dressed in a cheap wig and t-shirt. “It looked like something he wore to be able to do a quick fake look and then throw it off and look normal in the area.”

The perp's appearance is similar to a robbery reported in the NOPD's Major Offense Log from today, in which a 34-year-old man was approached by an unknown armed man also dressed as a woman on the 1200 block of Bourbon St. at 5:39AM. No connection between these two incidents is known at this time.

The perpetrator in the St. Roch Tavern robbery made off with an unspecified amount of money. The bartender told NoDef, “money is money. You can’t take it with you when you leave.”

Apart from the battery-related injuries, there were no further injuries in this incident.

Stay tuned for further updates from the NOPD.
