SoFAB Party Spotlights Wine, Cheese and Frenchmen by Erin Ruane Ten days after America’s Independence Day, Melange Speakeasy (corner of Chartres and Frenchmen) gears up to commemorate the French equivalent. The Bastille Day Wine and Cheese tasting confirms the Crescent City’s serious commitment to food and drink. The Southern Food and Beverage Museum will honor the start of the French Revolution by hosting the event.
Liz Williams, SoFAB representative and Wine and Cheese host admired the cultural/ cuisine relationship between New Orleans and France.
“New Orleans and French history will be interwoven in the tastings dialogue," she said.
In addition to the cultural lesson, Williams said the tasting will feature three French cheeses and four French wines. She enthusiastically added, “the discussion will focus on the elements of taste”.
NoDef questioned why Melange, (and not a bar on the aptly named: Frenchmen), was selected as the the venue. Williams revealed that Melange, was chosen due to its availability, large size and close proximity to the French Quarter, thereby other Bastille Day events.
