Attack at Archie Jefferson's HouseA mysterious overnight shooting at the Broadmoor home of a member of the Jefferson political family is beginning to unravel. Initial police reports indicated that Archie Jefferson, the youngest brother of newly-imprisoned fromer Congressman William Jefferson, found his wife shot in the head and lying in a pool of blood at the couple's home on S. Broad St. around 3:30 a.m. But a late morning report filed by Da Paper quotes an unnamed inside source who names Archie Jefferson as a suspect. Jefferson's wife, Sandy Peters Jefferson, remains alive. Coverage: Da Paper WWL WDSU
3:30 p.m. Update: At a press conference held this afternoon to tout this weekend's NOPD-sponsored gun buyback program, police chief Ronal Serpas spoke about the incident. He said Mrs. Jefferson sustained head injuries, but would not confirm if they were gunshot wounds, or blunt trauma. Serpas did confirm she is still alive in the hospital.
Serpas was mum on Archie Jefferson's role. He said police have spoken to Archie Jefferson and others, but, since it "has only been 12 hours since the incident," it is too early to determine the motive, or a solid suspect. Weapons were recovered from the home, but police have yet to determine if any were used in the incident, Serpas said. |
