Second Line Sunday in Treme, Algiers

The NOLA holiday weekend closes out strong Sunday, as second lines take it to both banks. In Treme, the Dumaine Street Gang traverses the avenues, from Claiborne to St. Bernard to St. Claude to A.P Tureaud. In Algiers, the Westbank Steppers crown boxing champ Roy Jones., Jr., as king. The Dumaine Street gang steps off from the Treme Center (N. Villere and St. Philip St.) at noon, with a route that pays homage to their fellow Social Aide and Pleasure Clubs in the 6th and 7th Wards. In case you weren't ready to get down, as this year's theme is "Knockin' Boots."


This year's king is Leo Lewis, and the queen is Lisa Robinson.

START: Treme Center, N. Villere and St. Philip St. Proceed up N. Villere to Dumaine St. Take a right. "Saluting our Past." Continue up Dumaine St. to N. Claiborne. Right on Claiborne. Continue to St. Philip St. U-turn.


STOP: Jackie and George's. (Old and Nu Style S&P Club). Continue on N. Claiborne to Orleans Ave. Right on Orleans. Continue on Orleans Ave. to N. Galvez.


STOP: Original Ladies and Men. Turn right. Continue to Ursulines. Right on Ursulines to N. Claiborne Ave.

STOP: Justine's Next Stop Bar (Sudan S&P Club). Continue up St. Bernard to A.P. Tureaud to N. Dorgenois. U-turn.


STOP: 2406 A.P. Tureaud (Nine Times S&P Club). Continue on A.P. Tureaud to N. Miro. Right on Miro.


STOP: Seal's Class Act. (Seal's Class Act Outreach Club & Undefeated Divas and Gents S&P Club). Left on St. Bernard. Continue on St. Bernard to N. Claiborne Ave. Right on Claiborne to St. Philip.

One of only several second lines in Algiers on the annual calendar, the Westbank Steppers aren't pulling any punches. Roy Jones, Jr, the boxing champ who held title belts in four weight divisions, is set to reign over the Best Bank.
