Second Line with Zulu for Essence Festival

Sad that second line season is over for the summer? Well, there's still a chance to get out in the street with the Zulu krewe today. As part of its free Block Party, starting at 2pm at Canal St. and St. Charles Ave., Zulu Social Aide and Pleasure Club and maybe even some celebs will second line to Champions Square to kick off the first Essence Festival block party.

The parade heads up Canal Street., making a right on Poydras, then a left into Champions Square.

At Champions Square, the second line will fade back into the woodwork, making way for performances from New Orlens' own Kourtney Heart (3:05 p.m.), Black Girls Rock! Founder Beverly Bond, and ultimate party starter Doug E. Fresh. The Block Party keeps rolling throughout the weekend, with appearances from MC Lyte, Spinderella and Dee-1 scheduled Saturday and Sunday
