Second Times-Picayune Reporter Jumps to WWL-TVUpdate 1:55 p.m. For Channel 4, McCarthy makes 2. WWL-TV announced this morning that Times-Picayune crime reporter Brendan McCarthy will be joining the TV station's investigative reporting staff. McCarthy, who received an offer from the NOLA Media Group but declined, was on the team that looked into the Danziger Bridge and Henry Glover cases, as well as the Homicide 37 series, which was a Pulitzer finalist in 2009. McCarthy joins David Hammer on the list of reporters WWL-TV scooped up in the wake of the announcement of the T-P's digitally focused future.
McCarthy will start at WWL-TV in September.
1:55 p.m. Longtime Outdoors writer Bob Marshall also announced he did not accept the NOLA Media Group's offer. More than the fishing forecast guy, Marshall rose to the occassion when the time called for it, like during this Big Oozy series about a place Bob Dylan once referenced called Delacroix.
Marshall said he was out of the country since the day after the initial news of the cuts came down, he said in his annoucement.
"Survivor's guilt was a serious issue for any of us who made that cut," he said of getting an offer. "Getting the news while sitting in one of Italy's most beautiful Renaissance cities (and getting paid to do so) only made the pain more inetnse." |
