Sagging Suspicion: Thibodaux Cops Stop Youth for Drooping Drawers by Shay Sokol A Thiboudaux youth was bagged for sag this week. Around midnight on Wednesday, Thibodaux police saw the juvenile - whose name and age were not released - walking near the corner of Canal Blvd. and Gerald T. Peltier Drive with his underwear showing - a violation of a controversial ordinance passed in 2007. After the youth refused to take his hands out of his pants, police conducted a pat down, according to a news release from Thibodaux PD.
Officers recovered a small caliber handgun concealed in the juvenile’s front waistband, along with five small bags of marijuana. The juvenile attempted to flee, but officers apprehended him without injury.
At the Thibodaux Police Department, officers learned that the gun had been reported stolen.
The juvenile was arrested for Possession for a Stolen Firearm, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Obstruction of a Public Roadway, Illegal Carrying of a Concealed Firearm, Illegal Carrying of a Firearm in the Presence of Illegal Narcotics, Resisting an Officer, Curfew Violation, and violating Saggy Pants Ordinance.
The juvenile was transported to the Juvenile Justice Center for holding.
The Saggy Pants Ordinance bans wearing sagging pants in public. Thibodaux Councilman Lindel Toups wrote the controversial law, which went into effect July 20, 2007. First offenders of the Saggy Pants Ordinance face a $50 fine. Second offenders face a $100 fine. Third offenders face a $100 find and 16 hours of community service. |

it's an invasive fascistic law.
It is a disgrace to manhood
It is a disgrace to manhood for a man to walk around in public with his pants below his buttocks. How can our society accept this behavior? Then the next thing you see is they have their hands on their crouch while they're having a conversation with someone. This law ought to be in New Orleans.
