Ron Paul Locks Up Louisiana Caucus

There were two first names at the top of the results over the weekend, as Ron Paul secured a victory in the Louisiana caucus. No one was paying too much attention to the caucus beforehand, but the result has managed to turn a few Republican heads. What's that? You thought Santorum already won here?

Well, in Louisiana, we love to vote (see: runoffs in local elections), so we have both a caucus and a primary.  For those keeping score at home, there's also a state convention June, where the actual delegates to the national convention are chosen.

With Santorum out of the race, the way was clear for the always-enthusiastic Ron Paul supporters to turn out and secure a Ron Paul win.

In Saturday's caucus voting, Ron Paul locked up the 1st and 2nd Congressional Districts, which comprise most of the New Orleans metro area, as well as the fifth and sixth districts, according to Ron Paul's camp. While the win may seem surprising, Ron Paul's actual victory was perhaps forecast a year ago when he won a straw poll held in New Orleans at last year's Republican Leadership Conference.

Ron Paul also won the Massachusetts caucus on Saturday, firing up the Paulists before they take to the floor at the National Convention in Tampa, where they'll try to crash Mitt Romney's party.
