Ringing That (Blue) Bell

The odds of a white Christmas in Louisiana are pretty slim, but locals will receiving a different cold treat during this holiday season. Blue Bell Ice Cream announced that there popular products will once again be available in the Pelican State come Monday (12.21).


On April 21st, a Listeria case linked to their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream resulted in a voluntary recall of the entire product line. After months of testing and retooling the company reopened their Brenham, Texas plant on November 18th. With the facility ramping up operation, distribution in the Boot is ready to begin again.


“We are excited to announce phase four and look forward to expanding our distribution area,” said Ricky Dickson, vice president of sales and marketing for Blue Bell. “Our customers have shown great patience over the past several months and we cannot thank them enough.”


To begin with, the only flavors available are Buttered Pecan, Cookies ’n Cream, Dutch Chocolate, Homemade Vanilla and The Great Divide (all in half gallon and pint sizes). In addition, 12-pak Homemade Vanilla Cups and 12-pak Homemade Vanilla and Dutch Chocolate Cups are also available in stores.


As lagniappe, 115 furloughed Blue Bell employees will get their jobs back just in time for the holiday. Including that group, the company employees 1000 employees in the region.
