Report: Edwin Edwards, Wife Announce They Want to Have a Baby

Edwin Edwards is going on 85, and can't run for governor. But he remains ready for new life. According to the Vermilion Times, the Silver Fox announced he wants to have a child with his 32-year-old wife, Trina. The couple will start trying to have the baby via artificial insemination in the fall, the legendary Louisiana governor told the Erath crowd as he was being inducted to the Order of Living Legends at the Acadian Museum. EWE said he had the names picked out as Gabriel for a boy and Evangeline for a girl, but his Trina was not so set in stone.

Taking to Facebook today, Trina Scott Edwards said, "Those are his names...I've already vetoed Gabriel."

And Edwards, who acknowledged that having a child at his age is "something rare" might not be against his wife in this case.

"Either way I want the baby's initials to be EWE," she posted later.

Edwards previously tried to have a baby at age 67 with his former wife Candy. In 2002, the former Mrs. Edwards told the Houma Courier that their attempt was halted when Edwards went to federal prison. She said Edwards had a vasectomy operation reversed.

Questions about whether they would have a child have followed Edwin and Trina Edwards since they were married last year in the French Quarter. At a 2011 press conference before his 84th birthday roast, Edwards was asked about rumors that he was preparing a nursery. He was coy in answering, saying only that he was still in search of a school district.
