Rebel Music (Fest)

In New Orleans, we seem to have a festival for just about everything-almost. Last year, five friends realized that despite New Orleans’ position as the north-most city in the Caribbean, there is no longer a fest for the music and culture. Enter the Roots Reggae Culture Festival which just dropped the lineup for two days of jammin’ in June.

The event is set for June 18th and 19th in Tad Gormley Stadium in City Park. An ambitious schedule promises lots of rebel music, mellow moods, and no roadblocks.

Long running Jamaican reggae superstars Third World will headline the fest. Higher Heights, Ben Hunter, Casa Samba, The Shepard Band, Rebel Bizness, D.O.K. Et Eboni Essenz, Kingman, Aya Movement, Zion Trinity, Ambush Reggae Band, and DJ T-Roy will fill out the rest of the bill.

Organizers also offer plenty of cultural experiences. There will be live mural painting and wood carving. For those feeling more energetic, a football challenge and stilt walking workshop here also on the agenda. And then, there is a “Hookah Experience” which promises flavored shisha in the shade.
