Randy Fertel's Family Lore

This week marks the release of Randy Fertel's memoir of life with his parents, The Gorilla Man and the Empress of Steak. The book casts a light on two classic New Orleans eccentrics: she, Ruth, the owner of Ruth's Chris Steak House and he, Rodney, the man who ran for mayor on the sole platform of gaining a gorilla admission to Audubon Zoo. But before the leader of the Fertel Funky Tour had a published book, he was also NOLA Defender's 1,000th follower on Twitter. Revisit the interview, in which he discusses the book, here. Then, go see Fertel speak at Octavia Books tonight.
