With scant days of summer remaining, correspondent, Arielle Schecter set off to Pandora's on North Carollton to report back on SnoBalls while they last... and deliver a Nixonian parable.

When Richard Nixon gave his celebrated “Checkers” speech in September of 1952, the American public was in a state of deep disillusionment with politics and government at large. Anti-Republican sentiment was at a high, and widespread corruption and fraud were thought to be irrevocably embedded in the so-called democratic process of this country. Nixon responded to these claims with a heartwarming mention of his family dog, Checkers, and how the pet was a symbol of the American people’s generosity and trust. This anecdote has inspired a genre of modern discourse that uses television as a motivational political medium, in much the same way as radio had been instrumental in garnering support for FDR’s administration, despite widespread social and economic hardship.

Eating a sno-ball at Pandora’s provides the modern consumer with a similarly remarkable experience. With all the proverbial shit New Orleans puts up with (and produces), it is a veritable miracle that a summer day can yet be salvaged by a small cup of crushed ice and flavored syrup.

A recent reconnaissance visit to the famed shop on Carrollton Avenue yielded high returns in the emotional appetitive quadrant, specifically with respect to the satisfying ratio of texture to flavor.

The wedding cake varietal turned around this reporter’s opinion on iced desserts, which heretofore had been impacted negatively by the mainstream distrust of sweets as a nutritional benefit. However, the abject enjoyment produced by a Pandora’s sno-ball was enough to revolutionize the dietary considerations of this new convert, who can only dream of the day in which politicians and laity alike communicate through the medium, large, or kiddie size.
