Overnight Crime Report: A Wine Bottle Beating, Two Shootings, Unclassified Death, Homicide

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) responded to five crimes on Thursday (3.16). The Major Offense Log (MOL) records the NOPD as responding to a homicide, two shootings, an unclassified death, and a mysterious beating with a wine bottle.

On the 600 block of Canal St., a 47-year-old man was found dead at 11:29AM by his wife. Detectives did not state whether they expect foul play involved in the man’s death.

Police responded to two incidents of aggravated battery, via shootings yesterday. Officers arrived on the 1600 block of Lafreniere St. at 5:03PM to find a male victim lying face down suffering from a gun shot wound. The MOL did not record the victim’s current status. At 12:31AM, a 23-year-old man was getting out of his car on the 1600 block of Frenchmen St. when we heard two men arguing, followed by several gun shots. The man realized he was shot and drove himself to the hospital. He is believed to be in stable condition.

At 9:09PM, a 45-year-old man was attacked with a wine bottle. He was brought to the hospital and is in stable condition. Police did not include the incident that led to this attack.

On the 3400 block of Kabel Dr., police are investigating the circumstances of a homicide that occurred there at around 5:27AM. In a separate release from the NOPD, detectives announced that they discovered a man suffering from a gunshot wound in the parking lots of a strip shopping center. The victim was pronounced dead on scene.

Readers with information that can help solve a crime are asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP.
