Overnight Crime Report: Two Shootings, A Purse Snatching, Infant Death

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) had their hands full with four major crimes on Sunday (3.19). According to the Major Offense Log (MOL), police responded to an infant death, a purse snatching, a drug deal gone awry, and a mysterious shooting.

On the 2600 block of Poydras St., a three-month old baby girl was found unresponsive at 8:03AM. She was pronounced at the hospital. The MOL did not note further details.

34-year-old Osai Bailey was walking with a 22-year-old woman at the intersection of S. Liberty and Jackson Ave. when Bailey grabbed her cellphone.  He gave the woman her cellphone back, and then proceeded to slap her, grab her by the hair and take her purse. Bailey stole $80 from her purse and fled the scene. An arrest warrant is out for Bailey’s arrest, according to detectives.

At 9:01PM, a 21-year-old man was in his car at the intersection of El Dorado and Tupelo St. According to the NOPD, the man was trying to make a drug transaction when three men approached his car and tried to open his car door. The man drove off and heard 2-3 gunshots ring out, after which he realized he had been struck. The man is in stable condition.

On the 2800 block of S. Saratoga, officers arrived to find a man in his mid-30s suffering from a gunshot wound. Police did not note the victim’s current condition.
