Overnight Crime Report: Shooting, Stabbing, Thwarted Armed Robbery

The New Orleans Police Department responded to a shooting, a stabbing, and a failed armed robbery according to the Major Offense Log (MOL) for Sunday (5.16).

An unknown man heard gunfire from a passing car as he was walking down the 1600 bloc of South Liberty Street at 5:57p.m. explained the NOPD. The Department said that after the victim realized that he had been shot, he ran to the corner of Simon Bolivar and Terpsichore where he met a friend and got a ride to the hospital.

Around 9:36p.m., Santrice Maccala, Indigo Maccala, and Cemani Maccala allegedly showed up at a 17-year-old girl’s house on the 1900 block of Hendee Street. Maccala started yelling at the resident, took a knife from one of the other two women, and then stabbed the victim several times according to police. Authorities said that the trio fled in a red Camaro and a dark silver car. The victim was taken to the hospital and is listed as stable and conscious.

The MOL noted the case of a 42-year-old woman who thwarted a robbery. At 10:50p.m., the victim was sitting in her car at 1521 Caton Street when a man with knife walked up to the window and demanded her purse according to detectives. The woman feigned a search for her cvaluables, but instead quickly locked the doors and rolled up the windows reported the NOPD. The perp then ran off.
