Overnight Crime Report: Four Armed Robberies, Shooting, Stabbing, Homicide

The New Orleans Police Department saw seven crimes hit the city on Wednesday (5.17). According to the Major Offense Log (MOL), the NOPD responded to a shooting, a stabbing, homicide, and four armed robberies.

At 12:45PM, an 18-year-old male and 37-year-old man were victims of a shooting on the 7400 block of Alabama St. The teen observed two men drive up in an unidentified truck and begin firing shots, at which time he fled to a nearby alley and realized he had been struck once. The 37-year-old was leaving his house, and heard shots and fell to the ground. He sustained two gunshot wounds. It is not clear if either victim was specifically targeted in the shooting.

There was an unfortunate case of deja vu on the 1600 block of Mandeville St. At 4:56PM, a 53-year-old was approached by a man he recognized from a previous armed robbery, who then pulled out a gun and put it to the man’s side. The victim emptied his pockets and the perp fled with money.

An arrest warrant was filed for 28-year-old Marcel Anderson after he broke into his ex-girlfriend’s home on the 4800 block of Dauphine St. At around 6:27PM, Anderson, armed with a gun, hit his ex several times and stole $40 from her.

At 9:53PM, a 48-year-old man was approached by an armed male on the 85000 block of Pritchard Pl. The perp demanded his keys and wallet, which the man agreed. The perp fled with $500 cash.

At 10:13PM, the Latino Market on the 13200 block of Chef Menteur Hwy. was robbed. A 35-year-old man and 33-year-old woman working at the store observed two men in hoodies entering, when one pointed a gun at the woman and demanded money. She then took out approximately $800 from three registers. The perps fled the scene in a van.

NOPD officers responded to a call of shots fired on the 7000 block of Bundy Rd. at around 1:10AM. When they arrived, they discovered a woman between the ages 25-30 slumped inside a 2-door Infiniti. She was suffering from multiple gun shot wounds, and died on scene.

An arrest warrant was filed for 39-year-old Percy Smith following an altercation with his girlfriend of the same age at 2:58AM. Smith threw something at her truck, at which time the woman got out of the car and confronted him. A physical fight ensued, with Smith throwing her to the ground and banging her head on the ground. Smith then allegedly pulled out a screwdriver, stabbing the woman twice. She drove herself to a hospital for treatment.

Readers with information that can help solve a crime are asked to call Crimestoppers at 822-1111 or toll-free 1-877-903-STOP. You could receive a cash reward of up to $2,500 for the information leading only to the arrest, except on homicides, where Crimestoppers will pay half of the reward upon the arrest and half on the indictment of the responsible person(s).
