Overnight Crime Report: 4 Shootings, 2 Cuttings, Robbery

The Major Offense Log (MOL) for Monday (3.07) listed four shooting incidents, two stabbings, and a stickup according to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD).

At 12:13p.m., a 24-year-old man heard gunshots while walking by the intersection of Canal Street and Elk Place and then realized that he had been shot explained NOPD PIO Dawne Massey. The man got himself to the hospital where he received medical treatment.

In an unrelated incident, a 46-year-old man was fatally shot on the 3600 block of Hollygrove Street. Massey said that at 2:14p.m., two men donning  ski masks and dark clothes walked up to the victim and opened fire. EMTs reported rushing the man to University Medical Center where he later died.

19-year-old Xavier Taylor was arrested for slashing another woman on the hand when an afternoon argument turned ugly near Chef Mentor Highway and Crowder Boulevard reported the NOPD.

At 8:22p.m. officers were dispatched to investigate gunfire near Bullard Avenue and Lake Forest Boulevard. Police said that they found an unidentified Asian male bleeding from a gunshot wound in a car parked in an abandoned supermarket’s parking lot. The Log notes that he died on the scene.

A 48-year-old driver was allegedly straddling lanes to block other cars from passing him on the Alvar Bridge at 10:46p.m. Police say that when the driver got to a strip mall at Chef Menteur and Desire, one of the motorists behind him was on the scene and began yelling. The argument escalated and the selfish driver was shot once in the leg according to authorities.

Massey stated that a 27-year-old man was sitting in a parked car at the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and N. Villere Street when two men crowded his car and demanded money. Before taking the man’s cash, the  suspects suggested that they were armed, but a weapon was never seen noted authorities.

A 24-year-old man got into an argument with his mother’s husband, Jack Williams, that ended with Williams repeatedly stabbing the man in the head and body with a pair of scissors detailed the MOL. The 52-year-old Williams was arrested and charged with Aggravated Battery.
