Overnight Crime Report: 2 Suicides, 3 Armed Robberies, 2 Snatchings, Homicide, 2 Stabbings, Attmpt. Robbery, Unclassified Death

The New Orleans Police Department saw twelve crimes hit the city on Saturday (7.8). According to the Major Offense Log (MOL), the NOPD responded to two suicides, three armed robberies, two property snatchings, homicide, two stabbings, attempted armed robbery, and an unclassified death. 


At 12:06PM, a 41-year-old woman was founding hanging from a door by a bed sheet in a residence on the 6900 block of Fleur de Lis by her father. The MOL reported she had a history of depression and anxiety. She was pronounced dead on scene. 


At 2:44PM, an 18-year-old met up at the Oakwood Mall to sell a cell phone. When the subject buying the phone saw that the screen was broken, they relocated to the market at the intersection of Behrman Hwy and Marr Ave, at which time the subject pulled out a gun and demanded the phone. The victim complied, and the unknown perp fled down Marr Ave. towards Gen. de Gaulle. 


31-year-old Kelcey Williams was identified as a perpetrator in a property snatching incident on the 700 block of Baronne St. At 6:02PM, he and a 29-year-old man were in a vehicle when a verbal altercation ensued, with Williams biting the man and taking his phone before fleeing in an unknown direction. 


While walking on the 800 block of St. Ann St. at 6:21PM, a 47-year-old woman and 50-year-old man began being followed by an unknown man who approached and grabbed $200 from the woman’s hand. The man approached the perp, at which time the perp physically assaulted it. The perp then fled. 


At 7:18PM, a female resident on the 800 block of Vallette St. heard a gunshot and entered the residence where it originated. She grabbed a juvenile female from the location, and called 911. Upon arrival, officers found a 29-year-old female deceased on scene from multiple gunshot wounds. Another unknown female was found suffering from a gunshot wound to an “unknown area” of her body, and was brought to a nearby hospital. The juvenile female was take by police into protective custody. 


59-year-old Jerome Edwards was arrested following a stabbing on the 2400 block of Dryades St. At 8:27PM, Edwards and a 42-year-old woman were in a verbal altercation when he broke a wine bottle and stabbed her. 


A 67-year-old man was walking in the rear courtyard of a residence on the 2900 block of Esplanade Ave when an unknown armed perpetrator approached at 8:51PM. The armed subject them demanded money from the victim, at which time the victim said he did not have any and tried to back away. The perp then fled on foot as well.


At 8:58PM, staff at a hotel on the 3900 block of Tulane Ave. found a 24-year-old man and a juvenile female unresponsive at the bottom of a pool. 


At 12:11AM, a 26-year-old female was approached by a man on the 1000 block of Spain St. who grabbed her purse. A struggle occurred and the man pulled out a gun and demanded her property. The girl complied and the subject fled with her laptop, passport, and camera. 


A 20-year-old male was talking with a known acquaintance at 12:57AM on the 3600 block of Louisiana Ave Pkwy. when three unknown subjects approached and began to physically assault the 20-year-old. One of the perps pointed a gun and took the man’s wallet and keys before fleeing in the victim’s car. 


An arrest warrant was filed for 34-year-old Michael Paul following a stabbing incident on the 1400 block of N. Claiborne Ave. At 2:03AM, Paul, a 27-year-old woman, and a 34-year-old male were inside of a residence when Paul pushed the woman. The other man tried to diffuse the situation, at which time Paul grabbed a knife and cut him. Paul also tried to cut the woman, but she sustained no injuries. 


At 43AM, a 29-year-old woman was found be her friend hanging from the hook on the bathroom door in a residence on the 900 block of Iberville St. The woman was pronounced dead on scene.
