Ordered in the Courtyard

Soon, the humidity will yield to humanity and autumn will arrive bringing with it a cavalcade of culture. The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) are making preparations for the city’s annual reboot. Today, the French Quarter institution released the schedule for the eighth annual Concerts in the Courtyard series. The event Gal Holiday and the Honkey Tonk Revue, Banu Gibson and Little Freddie King.

As implied by the name, Concerts in the Courtyard are monthly Friday night shows in THNOC's courtyard at 533 Royal St.  Admission includes three cocktails and is free for members, and $10 for non-members.

THNOC's Anne Robichaux told NoDef that the event was conceived as a means to introduce the institution’s cultural offerings to new members of the community.

That crossover will be on full display at Holiday’s September 18 opening show. Kingfish Kitchen and Cocktails will honor THNOC’s show “From Winnfield to Washington: The Life and Career of Huey P. Long” with Ramos Gin Fizzes, the favorite drink of the Kingfish himself.

When not hosting converts, THNOC is busy with cultural preservation. Robichaux elaborates, “We're a museum a research center and a publisher. We preserve materials covering the history of New Orleans, and Louisiana, and the Gulf Coast. We also publish books about the history and culture of New Orleans spanning from items in our collection to the Ernie K-Doe biography.”
