NOPD Tracks Stolen iPhones to Three-Peat Thief
One iPhone wasn't enough for one teenage robber on Wednesday night, and he ultimately fell victim to the Clould. A 15-year-old man who allegedly wielded a gun in robberies in the French Quarter, on Frenchmen Street and in the Marigny on Wednesday was arrested after stolen smartphones were traced to his location. Cops caught up with the teen in the 5300 block of Urquhart St., which is in the Lower 9th Ward, hours after the robbery rampage began at about 7:30 p.m., according to police.
The following info comes from NOPD reports:
The youth's first victims were in the 1100 block of Royal St. The teen approached two people, produced a gun and demanded their cell phones.
Minutes later, a robbery was reported in the 600 block of Frenchmen Street. A man and woman were on the street taking photos, when they were approached by the teen. He demanded their phones, and fled.
Shortly after that incident, a third robbery was reported in the 2100 block of N. Rampart Street in the Marigny. Police said he asked a person sitting on his porch for the time. The man then pulled out his iPhone. At that point, the teen drew a gun, demanded the phone and took off on foot.
Police said they recovered the handgun the teen used in the robberies. The gun was later found to be stolen from Slidell.
