NOPD Releases Surveillance Footage of French Quarter Rape Suspect

The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) Special Victims division released a surveillance video of an unknown male suspect in connection with a sexual assault in the French Quarter. As NoDef previously reported, the incident occurred during the early morning hours of April 16 on the 1400 block of Chartres Street.

Earlier this week, the NOPD released a composite sketch of the perpetrator — but the SafeCam NOLA footage goes far to confirm details of the suspect. He is described to be a black male about 5’10” weighing approximately 180-190 pounds, in his late 20’s to early 30s. He was last seen wearing a white crew neck t-shirt, a light-colored hat, blue jeans, and white athletic shoes.

The suspect was caught on video jogging down the 1400 block of Chartres St. and surrounding streets with what appears to be a woman’s purse and a square of fabric in hand. He occasionally turns to look behind him, before slowing or quickening his pace. The video ends with the man coolly slowing to a walk and joining the pedestrian traffic flow of the French Quarter.

The NOPD asks that anyone with information on the incident or can identify the suspect to contact Sex Crimes Detective Williams at 504-658-5523 or to call anonymously to CrimeStoppers at 504-822-1111 / toll-free at 1-877-903-7867. Alternately, citizens can email information to
