NOPD Officer Resigns After Lying About Hit-and-RunA day after his second hit-and-run incident with a parked car in a year, a longtime NOPD officer resigned Friday. In his latest incident, Roger Jones slammed into a parked car Tuesday morning in his personal vehicle and kept going, according to police. The 15-year police officer initially told cops that his car was stolen from the French Quarter.
Jones told his fellow officers that he later found the car wrecked in the area of Iberville and Marais. Later, however, the cops investigating their colleague sensed that something wasn't right.
The investigators reported discrepancies to the NOPD's Public Integrity Bureau, and Jones later confessed to bringing the car to Iberville and Marais hilmself. Jones also admitted making up the first story, and filing a false police report. He then resigned, and was arrested for both the hit-and-run and made-up report.
Jones, who was once the 8th District's Quality of Life officer, was under investigation for another hit-and-run in the Lower Garden District that happened Sept. 19, 2011. He was arrested in February for that incident.
