NOLA Chefs Among James Beard Awards Finalists

Local New Orleans restaurants, bars, and chefs once again found themselves on one of the most coveted lists in the industry today, as the 2017 James Beard finalist nominations were announced.

Known as the Oscars of food and beverage, the Beard awards are the highest honor for industry professionals. Some of the local nominees are no stranger to being nominated. Last year's selection for Best New Restaurant, Shaya, is back at the Beards with Zachary Engel's nom as Rising Star Chef, spotlighting chefs 30 and younger. New Orleans cocktail culture is a perennial favorite among the Beard judges, with both Cure and Arnaud's French 75 again included in the Outstanding Bar Program category. New Orleans chefs once again dominate the Best Chef: South category, with three out of the five nominees hailing from the Big Easy.

11 of NOLA's own will be repping the city when the winners are announced in Chicago on May 1. Check out the New Orleans finalists below:

Outstanding Chef: Donald Link (Herbsaint)

Best Chef, South: Nina Compton (Compère Lapin), Slade Rushing (Brennan's), Rebecca Wilcomb (Herbsaint)

Rising Star Chef: Zachary Engel (Shaya)

Outstanding Pastry Chef: Kelly Fields (Willa Jean)

Outstanding Restauranteur: JoAnn Clevenger (Upperline)

Outstanding Bar Program: Arnaud's French 75, Cure

Oustanding Wine Program: Emeril's New Orleans

Outstanding Service: Galatoire's Restaurant

Check out the full list of finalists here.
