Noisicians Undress Details of Underpants Party

by Chase Lowenstein

Siberia is mired in noise complications for the moment, but on Sunday there will be plenty of Noisicians. The St. Claude Ave. bar will be hosting the Noisician Coalition's annual Underpants Party without a cover charge from 10 p.m. - 4 a.m., with doors opening at 9PM.  In a defiant attempt to thumb their noses at the summer heat, droves of fleshy citizens will strip down to the bare essentials, enjoy food & drinks, and proceed to party - banging anything from handmade drums to trash can lids in a surprisingly rythmic groove.

It's the end of summer and this party gives everyone a chance to dance with our pants off and have some fun," said Liz Zibilich, the Coalition's Executive Minister of Dis-Communication.

When the Noisician Coalition takes to the streets to parade, they are surely a sight to be seen. Dawned in red, white, and black quasi-uniforms, they wield some of the most interesting instruments imaginable. Many build their own or convert equipment that was never originally meant to play music at all. When the show starts, however, these instruments work together as an urban explosion of beautiful noise that serve as a metaphor for NOLA's crafty and adaptive look on the creation of art.

In the past, the Underpants Party has helped raise funds for the  Noisician Coalition to help them with future projects and instrument construction/repair. This year however, they've decided to ditch the cover charge and allow people in for free because nobody should have to pay to party in their panties.

The party will be set to a 90's Decatur St. theme and encourages those attending to bust our their best gargoyle-style attire. While underpants are the first choice, nobody will mind if you decide to sport costumes, pajamas or anything else flashy.

At the party, there will be a mix of 90's alternative, goth, punk, and grunge music provided by Lt. Anderpants from Morning 40 Federation and Happy Talk Band. Drink's will be served by "OG Dectur Rat" Sarah Smith with special guest, Nofunangie and once you're at the event there's no need to worry about food. Matt Da Hat, Siberia's one-of-a-kind chef, will be working the kitchen to give back any calories lost on the dance floor.

The Noisician Coalition encourages everyone to bring their own noize gear for impromptu rocking and when asked if theyll be performing at the party.

"We'll definately be there with instruments in-hand, but we'll just have to wait and see what happens." Zibilich says.
