No Cuffs for Cuba Gooding Jr. as Bartender Drops Chargesby Shay Sokol Cuba Gooding Jr. won't become the latest celebrity to be immortalized in an OPP mugshot, after all. Earlier today, the actor was issued a summons instead of getting arrest today for allegedly pushing a bartender twice in Bourbon Street watering hole The Old Absinthe House Tuesday morning. By day's end, the charges were dropped, according to a press release from Old Absinthe House.
The more-than-100-year-old establishment is conducting an internal investigation of its own, and encourages patrons to continue coming to the bar on Bourbon.
Around 3 a.m. Tuesday, Gooding entered the bar on the 200 block of Bourbon Street, and grew angry when fans asked to take photos with him. The bartender tried calming the actor down, when Gooding then allegedly pushed her away with an open hand. When the bartender told Gooding to leave, he allegedly pushed her again, then left the bar.
The NOPD issued an arrest warrant for the Jerry Maguire star yesterday, charging him with municipal battery.
Gooding and his attorney were in contact with NOPD after the warrant was issued. Today, the actor talked to police and, instead of getting cuffed, was issued a summons to go to court, Officer Hilal Williams of NOPD’s Public Affairs Division said today.
The statement from Old Absinthe House did not provide a reason why the charges were dropped.
“It is our understanding the employee involved in the alleged altercation has chosen to drop all charges against Mr. Cuba Gooding, Jr.,” the press release states. “While we will continue to investigate this matter internally, we are hopeful that this will put an end to the matter and allow everyone to get back to enjoying all that our great city has to offer!”
Gooding is in town to film The Butler, starring Oprah Winfrey, Lenny Kravitz, and Cuba Gooding, Jr. |
