Night Market Returns to St. Claude Ave. on Second Saturday It's that time of the month in downtown New Orleans. Second Saturday arrives again on St. Claude Ave this weekend. Slated for 6-10 p.m. just down the strip from the main cluster of galleries will once again be a Night Market. Located at 2709 St. Claude (next to St. Coffee near the corner of Port Street), the market will feature 30 vendors selling their wares, which in this case include arts, crafts and, since looking art makes the stomach grumble, more food.
Among the food offerings are Pizza Delicious, who will be making a very special Saturday appearance. Crepes, soul food, dishes from Miso Hungry and baked goods from the Occassional Bakery partnership are also on the menu. Vendors include Matter L3C, with clay birds to benefit the Gulf Restoration Network and Katie Ray Leatherworks.
NoDef has been told dancing is highly encouraged, and there’s some music to assist in that process from Blu Beverage DJ Kristen and DJ Bunny (of Fur & Lace and S.I.N. dance nights).
St. Claude Main Street; J. Marin Heating and Air, NOLA Wise, and Square are sponsors of this month's event. Organizer Michael T. Martin said the event is about bringing the St. Claude community together.
"Ultimately, we're trying to make this more than just another piece of Second Saturday; we're trying to make this an event for different communities around St. Claude to come to buy, sell or peruse," he said. "I've always been attracted to the idea of a public market and the more that the Night Market mimics that, the better." |
