New Orleans Nixes Surveillance Drone for Super Bowl Out in Michoud, there's a New Orleans company manufacturing drones that can be used to monitor crowds on U.S. soil. When the city hosts the 2013 Super Bowl, officials with the local homeland security department and NOPD were planning to put one above the streets for security purposes. But the plans were abandoned last week. NOPD was in the market for the technology to monitor other big events and crisis situations, but those plans were also shelved. U.S. officials expect 30,000 flying robots will be in the air within the next ten years.  |
