Goodbye Hornets, Hello Pelicans?

by Kerem Ozkan

The New Orleans Hornets could soon become the New Orleans Pelicans. A new Yahoo report cites “numerous sources” as saying the rebranding may happen as soon as 2013-14. The report by Marc J. Spears confirms what the guys at Hornets247 have been suspecting for days.

The Pelicans name was long rumored to be in the running, as Tom Benson owns the rights to the brand, via the sadly-defunct minor league baseball team of the same name.

Gayle Benson recently told Fox Sports New Orleans her preferred colors are red, gold and navy blue.

Krewe, Brass, Voodoo and Angels were the other brands reportedly considered. Tragically, it seems the New Orleans Bounce movement never made headway.

Charlotte Bobcats owner Michael Jordan told the Charlotte Observer he would likely pursue the Hornets brand should it become available.
