Nacho Mama's Closes Magazine Street Locationby Mary-Devon Dupuy For Uptowners that love to go out for margs and queso, as well as those of us who love a good pun, we’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news. After nine years of serving the shoppers and diners of the Garden District some of their favorite Mexican fare, Nacho Mama’s shut down its location at 3242 Magazine St. earlier this week.
In between Toledano and Pleasant, Nacho Mama’s was smack dab in the middle of a stretch on Magazine full of bars, retail stores, and restaurants. On any given night, the sidewalk seating would be filled with diners and drinkers who had just gotten off of work or just stopping by for a quick bite before walking to one of the area’s nearby watering holes.
Hopefully, the next business to take over the ideally situated location will fit in with Mama’s neighbors--The Bulldog, Reginelli's, and Salu, just to name a few. Those who frequented the establishment can take comfort in the fact that they can still make the drive to Harahan if they need to fulfill a craving. Nacho Mama’s Elmwood location is still open at 1000 S. Clearview Pkwy.
Here's the full letter with the bad news from the owners:
