MSY to Spirit Away Travelers in 2013
by Mary-Devon Dupuy
KENNER -- Along with renovations and flights to Cuba, Louis Armstrong International Airport is bringing at least one new low-cost and brightly colored air carrier into the mix starting in early 2013. Spirit Airlines is getting into the mix at MSY, adding a budget airline to the terminal just in time for the Super Bowl, Mardi Gras and the rest of the bevy of festivities coming to New Orleans early next year.
At a press conference Monday afternoon, officials said the infusion of Spirit will add a daily nonstop flight to Dallas/Fort Worth airport starting January 24, 2013. A daily flight from MSY will leave at 1:35 p.m. and have travelers into DFW at 3:30 p.m. The daily flight from DFW will depart at 11:20 a.m., putting travelers in New Orleans at 12:45 p.m.
"This is the opportunity for a real growth, another opening of New Orleans to the rest of the world," said Nolan Rollins, chairman of the New Orleans Aviation Board.
