Michelle Obama's French Quarter FantasyApparently the shrimp po-boy from Parkway has stayed with Michelle Obama long past that rainy August day in 2010. During a CBS Sunday Morning interview with the first lady and President Barack Obama that aired today, Michelle Obama told Charlie Rose that her vacation daydreams included visions of the Quarters. "...The truth is, New Orleans," she said while responding to prodding from Rose about what destinations top her getaway bucket list.
"I've been there several times but I've never been to the French Quarter because when we're there we're working. We go in through some back way, through a freight elevator," she told Rose while standing on the White House steps.
Barack Obama just smiled.
"That's right, and a Jazz Fest of some sort is out there," she said, gesticulating more heavily. "So there's still a lot of places here in the U.S. where we still haven't really experienced."
If Obama brings the Mrs. to New Orleans when he's in town next week, she will get her chance to at least set foot in the French Quarter. After addressing the National Urban League's annual convention on July 25, the president is scheduled to be the Guest of Honor at an Obama Victory Fund "reception" at the House of Blues. It might not be a Jazz Fest of some sort, but she should rest assured knowing it's a place that welcomes politicians to the stage.
