Mega-Move for MegaBus

The MegaBus is a popular means of getting from city to city cheaply. However, the discount service has not been popular with residents of the Marigny. Since the company began operating from Elysian Fields in April 2011, locals have been campaigning to move the service to a proper terminal. On Tuesday (8.12), MegaBus announced that they will indeed move to an actual bus station.

The Mayor’s Office confirmed that MegaBus signed a one year lease with the New Orleans Building Corporation (NOBC). In exchange, the company will receive use of two bays at the Union Passenger Terminal and their passengers and staff will have use of the facilities inside the station according to the bus service.

No date was given for the switchover, but both parties stressed that they are working to make the transition as soon as possible.

Opposition to the Marigny stop at the corner of Elysian Fields Avenue and N. Rampart Street intensified over the past few months. Neighbors complained about noise and safety. A website titled megaproblem.com was launched to chronicle the qualms. Last week, one passenger was arrested for using the bus to smuggle heroin.
