Man Shoots His Own Foot on Bourbon St.

Many have said that they have shot themselves in the foot after a night on Bourbon Street, and 21-year-old Deanta Belvin did just that. Early this morning, Belvin accidentally shot himself in the 700 block of Bourbon Street, according to NOPD. A security guard approached Belvin, who had a firearm. The pair struggled as the security guard tried to detain Belvin, and Belvin reached for his gun. The weapon discharged, and Belvin accidentally shot himself in the foot.

The round punctured Belvin's foot and went into the floor. No one else was injured, and he was taken to the hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Once released from the hospital, Belvin will be booked with Illegally Discharging a Firearm, Illegal Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Firearm with a Controlled and Dangerous Substance, Possession of a Firearm in an Alcoholic Beverage Outlet, and Criminal Damage to Property, according to police spokesperson Officer Hilal B. Williams.
