Louisiana Int'l Film Fest Golden Boot Winners

Following in a long line of golden trophies, from the Oscar statuette to the MTV popcorn, the first ever Louisiana Independent Film Festival (LIFF) and Mentorship Program closed last night with the aptly named Golden Boot Awards.

The night went well for many talented filmmakers, including Leslie Zemeckis whose film, Bound by Flesh, took the top spot for Best Documentary.  The film examined two conjoined twins, Daisy and Violet Hilton, as they moved through the world of show business as one.

Dale Fabrigar’s quirky romance, Lonely Boy, earned Best First Feature, while a more familiar name, Dennis Quaid, took home the gold for Best Acting in his most recent drama with heartthrob Zac Efron, At Any Price.

A tie for the Audience Award gave a boot to both Morgan Neville’s musical documentary, Twenty Feet From Stardom, and Henry-Alex Rubin’s thriller, Disconnect, starring Jason Bateman, Max Thierot, Hope Davis, Paula Patton, and Les Bon Temps’ favorite vampire, Alexander Skarsgard.

In Baton Rouge, LIFF screened over 50 films, including three U.S. premiers— Good People Go To Hell, Saved People Go to Heaven, Dean Spanley and Boxing Day— and two world premiers— By and By: New Orleans Gospel at the Crossroads and Jolene.
