LASEN: Debate Dates Lined Up

As it winds toward Election Day, the Louisiana Senate race may be moving from 30-second attack ads to face-to-face combat. Mary Landrieu's campaign announced Tuesday that the New Orleans-based incumbent has agreed to participate in four debates. Two of the televised showdowns will be in New Orleans.

According to Landrieu's campaign, the four debates are scheduled for the following dates and times, with locations to be announced later:

  • Oct. 2 in New Orleans (WDSU sponsored)
  • Oct. 27 in New Orleans (WWL-TV sponsored)
  • Oct. 29 in Baton Rouge (LSU, Raycom Media, WRKF sponsored)
  • TBD in Monroe (KNOE and KALB sponsored)

U.S. Rep. Bill Cassidy's (R-Baton Rouge) campaign didn't immediately indicate he had agreed to participate in the quartet forums. The race's third candidate is Col. Rob Maness (ret.), a conservative challenger who has been endorsed by former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.

“Voters will only learn where the candidates stand on the issues that matter most to them by hearing the whole field of candidates participate," Landrieu campaign communications director Fabien Levy said in a statement.
