La. City's Fortune Telling Ban Overturned with Assist from New OrleansThe fortune tellers and psychics in front of Jackson Square affected public policy last week, but it didn't come from a tarot card prediction. According to the Town Talk, a federal judge overturned a year-old ban on fortunetelling in Alexandria. To make her case, Judge Dee D. Drell relied mostly on the First Amendment. But when it came to real-world examples, she needed look no further than a prime piece of riverside real estate 200 miles to the Southeast.
"The 'art' of fortune telling proliferates in front of St. Louis Cathedral, in the city of New Orleans, apparently without incident," Drell wrote in her opinion that effectively overturned the ban, according to the Town Talk.
Another judge added that court support for the ban was "not in the cards." |
