Krewe of Muses Put on Their Dancing Shoes Friday Night

by Erica Boni

Rather than tossing shoes off the side of a float, the Krewe of Muses invites you to strap them on your feet Friday night, and get ready to dance! Don’t miss your chance to relive the excitement of the parade while simultaneously helping to lift up some ladies that could use it.

The famed all-female Carnival krewe is hosting their yearly summer dance party from 6-9 p.m. at the Republic (828 S. Peters Street). All proceeds from the $20 entry fee will be donated to Eden House, a recently formed, New Orleans based organization established to aid former prostitutes in their quest for a new means of survival.

With the proceeds of ticket sales, Eden House will sponsor provisions for its residents including two years of housing, food, medical care, counseling, education and job training free of cost. The organization hopes to uplift the women who seek their aid both spiritually and emotionally, in order to help them overcome their traumatic pasts, develop practical skills and achieve their personal goals in the future.

Muses often seeks to support female run organizations with a goal, like that of the krewe itself, of creating a community context for female empowerment.

Dress is casual and DJ Diagnosis will be spinning upbeat tunes throughout the evening. The event will also feature some of the dance groups who perform in the Muses parade during Mardi Gras, including Pussyfooters, The Camel Toe Lady Steppers, the NOLA Cherry Bombs and The Rolling Elvi/Jailhouse Rockers. The admission price includes two free drinks.
