Krewe of Endymion Unveils Super Float at Mardi Gras WorldAs everyone preps their costumes for Halloween, one group of New Orleans revelers are getting little further ahead in their festival planning. Mardi Gras World hosted a press conference today for the Krewe of Endymion to unveil a surprise addition to next year’s ride through Mid City; the Krewe’s “Pontchartrain Beach Then and Now” super float will roll at an unprecedented 330 ft., broken up into 10 individual pieces with the capacity to hold 230 riders. Of course, the Krewe will have throws to match.
Barry Kern spoke to thank Captain Ed Muniz for his creativity in thinking up this “technological marvel” of a float, which will encapsulate everyone’s most nostalgic parts of Pontchartrain Beach. There will be individual units for the Zephyrs, Carousels, ferris wheels, the beach’s haunted house, a music express, and more.
Ed Muniz let everyone in on the Endymion 2013 lighted medallions, but that’s the only covetable throw. In keeping with the beach theme, they’ll throw over 50,000 beach balls.
Local bands like Top Cats, the Groovy Seven, the Uptown All Stars, and more will provide the mobile music during the parade, and the biggest act of them all is this year’s Grand Marshal, Kelly Clarkson.
Councilmember Guidry spoke to thank the Krewe, as well as Barry Kern and his Artistic Director Damon Bowie for rolling the spectacular parade through Mid City every year. Guidry invoked the words of poet John Keats from his poem, “Endymion,” “A thing of beauty is a joy for ever; Its loveliness increases,” quoted Guidry. |
